Information - Areas of Gwynedd - Gerlan
Area profile
Carneddi and Gerlan is close to and forms part of Bethesda.
Bethesda is a small town of around 4300 inhabitants based on the 2001 census. The town developed around the slate quarrying industry and the renowned Bethesda purple slate. Whilst the quarry still dominates the local landscape the number of people employed in the industry has declined and most inhabitants commute elsewhere to work. Today the town provides a gateway to Snowdonia and the nearby Ogwen valley and the Carneddi mountains.
