Area profile

Tanygrisiau is situated at the foot of the Moelwyn mountains, 1 mile out of Blaenau Ffestiniog.  Tanygrisiau was famous for its slate mining, producing a high quality black slate that was used across the world. The nearby Ffestiniog power station, the high Stwlan Dam and Llyn Ystradau, colloquially known as Tanygrisiau Reservoir, are part of a pumped storage hydro electricity installation.

Due to rural location of the village there are little or no shops, services or facilities.

Blaenau Ffestiniog

Blaenau Ffestiniog is a small town in the centre of Snowdonia National Park. The population  is around 5000 people which includes Llan Ffestiniog.

Due to the size of the town, there are are a number of local shops, services and facilities. There are a number of primary and a secondary school in the area.

The housing association have a number of properties in the town. Renting can be a good options with prices that are affordable.
